RESORTS:

• The Aruba Bucuti Beach Resort was chosen as one of the top 10 Best Hotels for Romance in the Caribbean and Latin America by Trip Advisor and has been awarded “The Travelers' Choice awards”. These awards represent the unbiased opinions of millions of real travelers and are quickly becoming among the most coveted awards in the travel industry. The 2006 Trip Advisor Travelers' Choice awards recognized the best hotels in the following categories: Best Luxury, Best Hidden Gem, Best Bargain, Best Inns & B&B's, Best for Romance, Families and Best Pool.” A full list of winners is available via a link on their website home page: www.tripadvisor.com

Bucuti Beach Resort was also named as one of the top 20 “Best Honeymoon Hotels” in the Caribbean by BRIDES Magazine, Honeymoons and Weddings Away edition. BRIDES Magazine, the authority on weddings and honeymoons, issued their annual list of 120 hotels worldwide which they consider the best for honeymoons.

• The Occidental Grand Aruba recently received the RCI Gold Crown Resort Award for 2007, which was personally presented by Mr. Carlos Figaredo, Senior Manager of Business Development for RCI in Latin America. The Occidental Grand now belongs to RCI’s top 10% of elite hotels that qualify for the award. Each resort that receives the Gold Crown designation has met the quality and service requirements based on both RCI Member Comments Card ratings and an evaluation of resort facilities, amenities and service. These resorts have attained the highest level of excellence in resort accommodations and hospitality for superior quality and outstanding service.

• The Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino was included in Conde Nast Traveler Gold List, a list of the top 700 hotels, resorts and cruise lines in the world. This was in the January 2007 edition.

• The Divi & Tamarijn Aruba boasts a number of new enhancements this year. First, the well-known pizza bar located poolside at the Tamarijn Aruba with a great ocean view became Pizza per Tutti Bar & Grill. New bedding, window treatments and upholstery have been added to the rooms at the Tamarijn Aruba. A new Asian fusion restaurant, “Ginger,” is located adjacent to the Italian restaurant, Paparazzi, offers both indoor and outdoor seating as well as innovative, modern décor and an exciting menu. Aruba Weddings For You offering newlyweds-to-be service will be available to guests of both the Divi & Tamarijn Aruba at an additional charge.

 

AIRPORT, AIRLINES & CRUISESHIPS:

• The Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) announced the new departure tax fees, a new transfer charge and parking fees effective April 1, 2007.

US bound departure tax remains $37.00 per passenger and $33.50 (US$ 0.50 increase) for international flights; children under the age of two years are exempt.

A Transfer Charge of USD 3.00 per transferring passenger for all passengers transferring to flights to NON-US destinations will also be introduced as of April 1, 2007. (Passengers who departed from other airports and are traveling via Aruba to US destinations are considered to be departing from Aruba and are subject to the full standard check-in procedures and therefore, all regular passenger charges are applicable to these passengers. The basic parking rate will then be AWG 2.50 per hour or part thereof; the maximum rate per day AWG 25; 2 days AWG 50; 3 days or more AWG 75. The charge per lost parking ticket will be AWG 75.

• AIDA Cruises 2007/2008 winter season which sees the brand adding some new itineraries includes two fortnight sailings combining destinations in Central America and the Caribbean. RESTAURANTS:

ARTs & CULTURE:

• Every Thursday night from 7 to 9 pm is Folcloric Night around the pool/waterslide area at La Cabana Villas. A folcloric dance group performs every week between 7.30 – 8.30 pm. Local vendors selling their handmade arts & crafts as well as local dishes. The hotel’s DJ entertains during breaks with tyipical local music to which the visitors can dance trhoguhout the event. The Sunset Pool Bar & Grill serve all drinks at Hapy Hour prices as well as hambrugers, hotdogs and more at affordable prices.

• A major road construction project was initiated this month at the Parke Nacional Arikok. The road network reconstruction, financed by the European Union, will cost 2.8 million euros and will come out of the 12 million euros the EU has allocated for the Parke Nacional. The funds are destined for the road network and also a visitor’s complex planned to be constructed at the entrance of the park. • An Aruban ABSOLUTE VODKA work of art, using clay and paint, will be displayed in the Absolut museum in Sweden. Created a by a group of local artists, patrons of the new art gallery & café Oranjestad Kunsthuis, the Aruba Absolute bottle was presented to one of the Absolut directors to take to Sweden.

 

GENERAL:
